Linux Training for (future) Nutanix Administrators (LTFNA)

Course Overview

This training is not a Linux fundamentals training like any other Linux fundamentals training.

This training will focus on Linux knowledge relevant for managing Nutanix Cluster(s).

It will be conducted with a minimum of slide presentations, many demonstrations and room for exercises.

Course Content

Basics:
Logging in.

Delegates will understand username administration and passwords, login directories and startup scripts.

Navigating a Linux directory structure.

Delegates will get familiar with changing directories and also learn about the different purposes of particular directories.

Managing processes.

Delegates will learn what processes are, how to list them and investigate the health status of groups of processes (services).

Startup and Shutdown.

Delegates will learn how to shutdown/reboot/halt Linux, and what the results are of doing so.

Disks and Filesystems.

Delegates will understand that disks can have filesystems and in Linux, filesystems need to be mounted to a mount point to be accessible.

Virtualization.

Delegates will understand that Linux has a Hypervisor solution: KVM And this will be demonstrated.

Nutanix:
Acropolis.

Delegates will learn about Acropolis and understand that Acropolis combines the KVM hypervisor with a Control Virtual Machine. They will see that Nutanix is more than just a Hypervisor.

Storage.

Disks in a Linux environment are normally managed by the machine itself. Delegates will understand that the machines form a cluster and thus make use of a storage pool of disks that spans multiple machines.

Networking.

Delegates will learn that networking in a single linux machine is based upon Network Interfaces and IP Addresses, but in Nutanix this has to be regulated at a higher level.

Interfaces.

Linux in general is best managed at the command line level. With Nutanix there are some additional Interfaces to manage a Nutanix cluster. This entails command line tools as well as browser based tools. Delegates will be introduced to these tools.

Finally:

The previous content will all be brought together in a Lab exercise to setup a Nutanix cluster.

This training will contain labs on every topic and will need three days to make it worthwhile.
